18. Elizabeth Bathory
Elizabeth Bathory held a very lofty position as a noblewoman hailing from the Kingdom of Hungary. She has gone down in history as one of the most formidable female serial killers of all time. In fact, the Guinness Book of World Records even recognized her for her grim legacy.
Despite this legacy, however, it is not certain exactly how many fell victim to Bathory. Some sources place the number of victims at around 650. What is known is that she did not kill her victims mercilessly. She was brutal, and hundreds of witnesses stepped forward to relay their accounts. Eventually, Bathory’s story warped in places to the point that she seemed like a product of legend. One enduring rumor is that she bathed in her victim’s blood. Whether the rumors hold true or not, it is certain that Bathory’s penchant for torture was very real and many died at her hand.
